Mustangs Pick up First Region Road Win of Season

In Sheridan on Saturday, 24 hours after their first loss of the season Western Wyoming faced off against Sheridan College.  Sheridan came into the match as an undefeated team for the season and the leader in the Region IX North.

The home-standing Generals have a good offense and were unlucky to not score early against the Mustangs.  The first 10 minutes of the first half were dominated by the Sheridan Generals but the Mustangs started to gain possession and control of the match afterwards.  The latter parts of the first half were owned by the road team.  Jose Rincon and Jesse Cardenas put pressure on the Sheridan keeper in the 31st minute and Jose Rincon stole the ball and kicked it in the net for a 1 - 0 Mustang lead.  The lead stayed the same for the rest of the half and at the halftime.

The second half started much like the first half ended with Western finding possession and frustrating the Generals.  Around the 60th minute Alan Wendlandt played a long diagonal ball into the Sheridan box which was skillfully buried by Riley Gibson.  The WWCC lead was now 2 - 0.  Sheridan would cut into the lead about 10 minutes later when they were awarded a penalty kick.  With the score 2 - 1 and the time almost out of the match Sheridan played very offensively but the Mustang defense and keeper Mitch Jensen were up to the task and held on for an impressive road win in the region.  The win brings the Mustang record to 3 - 1 - 2 overall and 1 - 1 - 0 in Region IX North.  Currently the Mustangs, Northwest and Sheridan are all tied on top of Region IX North.

Mustang Man of the Match: Riley Gibson - For continued improved play and the game winning goal.
