On Friday night at the University of Utah Campus the Utah Club team hosted the Western Wyoming Mustangs. This was the first scrimmage of the 2014 season for the Mustangs. The starters for the Mustangs were decided from the Fitness Tests during the two-a-days practice. Getting their first start in their Western career were Eric Ramirez, Alan Wendlandt, Landon Jacobsen, Gunner Burrell, Piero Levano, Carsen Tinker, Spencer Seitz, Taylor Flitton, Devin Moore and Carlos Gonzalez. Brock Mosier a returning sophomore was also a starter.
The Mustangs weathered a fast start from the Utes and countered with a goal in the 10th minute. Eric Ramirez buried a shot in the bottom left corner of the goal from a Gunner Burrell assist. The scrimmage was very physical and played at a very fast pace. The half time score was Mustangs 1 - Utes 0.
The second half was again fast paced with many hard tackles and very physical play. Just when the Mustangs looked to win the match the Utes had a wicked shot bounce right in front of the WWCC keeper Kyle Mivshek and into the goal in the 87th minute. The score remained tied for the last three minutes and the first scrimmage of the 2014 season ended in a draw between Western Wyoming and University of Utah 1- 1.
The following players continued their sophomore careers and saw playing time for the Mustangs; Devian Kurete, Andrew Newbold and Carson Broadhead. The following freshmen saw their first action as Mustangs for the scrimmage; Kyle Mivshek, Levi Tams, Colton Cottrell, Zac Roper, Jesse Cardenas, Adam Stocks, Austin Moffitt, Austin Pinter and Riley Gibson.Match Facts:Shots - WWCC 16 - UU 23; Assists - WWCC 1 - UU 1; Saves - WWCC 12 - UU 4; Free Kicks - WWCC 12 - UU 14; Corner Kicks - WWCC 5 - UU 5; Cards - WWCC 0 - UU 0.
